Event Details

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this month's meeting has been rescheduled for June 16th.

Microsoft virtualization technologies will be the theme for this month's meeting.  Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback from last month's Windows 7 night, we're keeping the multi-track, multi-session format so you can select the topics that are of most interest to you.

Below are the sessions we have planned.  We're going to be asking you to select the sessions you will most likely attend when you register.  Feel free to mix and match between tracks.  You're not locked in, but it helps us get a quick count for room assignments.

A light dinner (pizza and /or sandwiches) will be served with beverages.

Overview of Microsoft Server Virtualization
With the introduction of Hyper-V R2 and System Center Virtual Machine Manager, Microsoft is offering a cost-effective, enterprise-class virtualization solution.  Join us for an overview of key features including a demonstration of live state migration and a tour of the features offered by Virtual Machine Manager.

Overview of Microsoft Desktop Virtualization
With all the acronyms associated with virtualization is can be tough to get a handle on what really makes sense for your environment.  We'll break down the various technologies offered by Microsoft and discuss what benefits each provides.  This session will include live demonstrations of Med-V, App-V, Windows 7 VDI, and Remote Desktop Services.

Hyper-V Moderated Forum
Are you already testing or deploying Hyper-V R2 in your environment?  Running into any challenges or issues?  Come share your experiences or get answers to your questions in this open forum moderated by Doug Henry, Senior System Engineer at Software Logic.  Doug will be glad to whiteboard any design or deployment questions that our members have.  We'll also be discussing several products that can accelerate or enhance your Hyper-V deployment.

Application Virtualization with App-V: Deep Dive
App-V (formerly SoftGrid) offers new ways to streamline application deployment, reduce application conflicts, reduce the need for regression testing, and provide transparent, dynamic application updates.  If you’re getting ready to deploy Windows 7 or Office 2010, now is a great time to look at new strategies for application deployment.  This session will include live demos showing side-by-side deployment of Office 2007 and Office 2010 as well as third-party applications deployed with App-V.

Windows 7 Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI): Deep Dive
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is an alternative desktop delivery model that allows users to access desktops running in the datacenter. Unlike Terminal Services, in VDI each user gets access to a personal desktop from any authorized device, thereby improving desktop flexibility. IT departments can take advantage of all the benefits of centralization, including centralized management of desktop workloads and improved business continuity.  Learn about the details required to implement Windows 7 VDI and see live demos of its capabilities.

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V): Deep Dive
Learn about the new features included in the latest release of Med-V (the enterprise version of Windows XP Mode included in Windows 7).  Med-V allows legacy applications not compatible with Windows 7 to be run in a virtual workspace that seamlessly integrates with the Windows 7 desktop.  Med-V offers centralized virtual image management and deployment with granular control over security settings and usage policies.  We are re-running this session from our Windows 7 night at the request of folks who were unable to attend last month’s presentation.

Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop
Our friends at Core BTS will be joining us for a discussion and demo of several updated Citrix products including XenDesktop and XenApp.  If you are planning to do anything with desktop or application virtualization, take a few minutes to check out what Citrix is offering to complement Microsoft products in these areas.  We saw a demo of Citrix's solutions at the last Microsoft Partner Briefing and they are impressive.  To give everyone an opportunity to see these products, we will be running this session three times during the evening.
